Give Puerto Vallarta a Try!!!!
Give Puerto Vallarta a Try!!!!

Owning several spas in the San Francisco area sounds great, doesn't it?
Fun, meet great people, make good money?  Yes, that is all true, but
there is a downside.  Like the rat race, like complying with the tons of rules and regulations governing the business, employee issues, not to mention acquiring a stalker!   I started fantasizing about what heaven would be like. Without dying first.   For me, it would be a villa, in a warm
place, on the beach.  I did not even care where it would be. Just to escape!!

Sooo~ I started traveling to areas that looked good for me. San Diego,
Naples, Florida, Cancun, Thailand, Panama, and more.  They were all
great, but the USA locations were out of my price range. Thailand is a bit far, {my son would never forgive me}, Mexico looked REALLY good!   Cancun was
good, the sea is beautiful, but they have hurricanes.  Came to Puerto
Vallarta, on the west coast.  We rarely have hurricanes; we are protected by the largest bay in Mexico. It has a spiritual feeling, almost magical, everyone agrees. Maybe it is the vortex in the bay, possibly it is those drums you hear on certain occasions, 'way up in the mountains, the natives having their spiritual ceremonies. I don't know what it is; some say God lives here.

If you want to live in the old town, or one of the outlying towns, for a
real Mexican experience, many expats love that, and it certainly is a
learning experience, not to mention very economical. . Me, I prefer
luxury.

After a couple of trips, and a lot of research on the internet, and an
incredible spiritual experience, I realized~~ "THIS IS IT!"    Found a
beautiful gated development under construction, right on the beach.  My
son was worried about me, after all, it IS Mexico, right? Then, he came to visit. I have 24 hour security guards, I sneeze and they come running.
Very safe for a 72 year old widow. I have never seen a gun fight, drug
dealers, killings, etc.  I guess if you hang out in that sort of environment, you could find all that, but that is true anywhere.

Many expats here, in fact so many that I have been very lazy about learning Spanish. The women outnumber the men, so if you are shopping for a husband, this is not the place. Find him first, and then bring him with you.  Healthcare is MUCH better than in the states, there is real compassion from the doctors and nurses, at a price that is about 30% of the USA prices.  Insurance is available for about $600 a year, for my age.  Less if you are younger.

The people are always smiling. At first, I thought they wanted something, why would they smile all the time? But, as time went on, I finally got it~~they are just laid back, caring, and want to be friends with you.  There is plenty to do here. Expat events every week.  Many volunteer programs to help the poor here, Good shopping, movies in English, fabulous restaurants.

The beautiful Sierra Madre mountains spill right down  to the seashore, you can see fireworks at sea every night.   And if you miss the city, like I
sometimes do, just hop a bus, and in five hours you are in Guadalajara!

On my senior card, I pay about $15 each way, get a hotel in a good area for about $75, and shop till I drop!  The bus has no problem, in case you
buy a table, or chair, they will put it under, with the luggage.  Get rid of your panty hose and suits, pack your shorts and swim suit and give Puerto Vallarta a try!!!!
Cool

Wow, I have not been online in a LONG time!! Just forgot, or was busy, I guess! Well, dispite Cocomos negative comments, I still love it here! It has been 11 years now. Augie, you are probably already here by now, hope you are loving it! As far as where I live here, it is called BAYVIEW GRAND, there is a web site. On the north end of town, in Marina District. I own here, but some people rent out there units. For me, it is the best location in town. Although I have a car, you really do not need one, unless you want to go exploring. Bus and Taxi service at the door. Compared to Lake Chapala, PV is much more expensive to live. I like Ajjic, which is near Chapala, but I prefer Vallarta for the weather, beach, larger town area. We have all the necessities, Sam's ,Costco, McDonalds, KFC, Walmart, most everything is here. And, if I want REAL shopping I spend a few days in Guadalajara, which is about 5 hours away by bus.

Augie~~ Sorry, I have not been on this website for awhile. I bought 10 years ago, a villa on the beach in a development. Price was great then, but now, quite expensive in Marina area. You can rent places a few blocks from the beach for maybe $600 or so, but if you want , say, a 2 bedroom, in my development, you will pay about $2000 a month. But, I love it here, weather is great, people are awesome, very little crime, and good food! Linda~~ thanks for the note, yes, I must agree, this is not the place to find a guy, they are either drunk, married, gay, or going home next week. Oh well, I have already had more than my share of men!!

FYI - from an American woman who has lived in PV for the past 20 years - she can't wait to LEAVE PV to join us in beautiful, unspoiled Tonga, in the South Pacific , where she has bought ocean-view lots in 'Cocomo Village', Vava'u Group.

PV - A HAS-BEEN CESSPOOL - SEE MY COMMENTS BELOW to a BS promote for PV from 'The Pathfinder Alert' !

my comments below: "I'd rather die young! lolol"
    hope you enjoy!!!! hahahahahah

A Magical Town, a Metal Crown, and a Bunch of Expats
"the old crown fell off in an earthquake and a cheap aluminum
one graces the city, which used to be a town."

its large expat community and excellent access to the US
"Only idiots would want to be close to the USA now! Lolol"

In 1963, John Huston filmed Night of the Iguana
"Yes and all the interesting, pioneering bohemians left by the early 1990's"

Today, more than 50,000 Americans and Canadians call Vallarta home for at least part of the year.
"The most mediocre, boring, no imagination people from middle america - the brain dead drinkers and retired yuppies."

And when you see Vallarta for yourself, you'll understand why so many of them fell in love in this place...
"Now it is so contaminated, the bay fouled by cruise ship doodoo and the mountain views obliterated by dusty smog."

    The quaint cobblestone streets
"how many people have fallen on them... hahahaha it's the capitol of expat broken ankles."

lead to a boardwalk running along the beach, dotted with sculptures, and stalls selling handcrafts.
"Of which NONE are made in PV - What a sham."

Sun-worshipers should head north of the town, where the Riviera Nayarit's beaches stretch for more than 100 miles. Here, hills and slopes covered with thick jungle tumble down to wide, palm-fringed beaches,
"hahahahaha the laws in Nayarit are not as protective as PV to say
the least and the way the people drive there... suicidal."

hidden coves, and rocky inlets. Scattered along the coast,
    > you'll find small beach towns and local fishing villages,
    > interspersed with luxury homes and signature golf courses.
"Yes and believe me, the locals HATE the rich foreigners who are
    mainly ugly amerikans"

With almost 1000 restaurants and cafes to choose from, and some seriously talented chefs, Vallarta rates highly with gourmands.
"I have to admit this is true. The ONLY thing I will miss about PV
will be the Food. But I won't miss the prices, which are higher than
    USA prices."

    catching a movie in English.
"Because most of them are too stuck up or stupid to try to learn Spanish."

A growing trend here is medical tourism. It's something the expats living in Vallarta have known for years: medical care is good quality, and highly affordable.
"Make money off the sick americans. hahaha. Mexican revenge. hahahaha"

With so much to offer, it's hardly surprising that Puerto Vallarta made it to the top of the AARP list.
"Yes it's a great place to become old, act one's old age, live ones old years and die. A great place to die, I have to give it that!!!!"

But Vallarta's not just for retirees. It's hard to beat as location for a vacation home, too.
Due to the town's popularity with American buyers, property sales
    > slowed...and prices dropped somewhat...in tandem with the slowdown in
    > the US economy. That's good news for anyone wanting to buy here.

    "hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
The prices fell right down to hell. No one can sell. No one is moving here.
hahahahahahahahahaha Swine flu, Drug gangs, Mexicans returning from the states disillusioned; Federales shooting innocent people in their homes and drugs
    everywhere...its PARADISE hahahahahahahaha."

If you'd like to check out properties in Puerto Vallarta, and on the Riviera Nayarit, our friends at Mexico Alive will give you a
    > free property tour...and up to $2000 travel credit if you purchase a property. "And they will sell you a sparkling clean way to leave the planet,
gorging and having the same conversations with the same type of expat. One will
    die of boredom here!!!"
